Hardcover fiction donations get sorted category-by-category at NMLP's warehouse. The right routing depends on edition, condition, and demand:
- Recent hardcover bestsellers (last 5 years) — strong online resale on Amazon and eBay; condition needs to be solid for resale routing, but reading-condition copies route to LFL stewards.
- Modern firsts of major authors — Hillerman first printings, McCarthy Knopf firsts, Anaya Quinto Sol first edition, Silko Ceremony Viking firsts — get set aside and researched before they're listed.
- Vintage hardcovers (pre-1970, with dust jacket) — researched before routing.
- Book club editions and reader's digest condensed — typically don't have resale value, route to recycling or LFL where appropriate.
- Library discards and ex-library hardcovers — accepted, routed to recycling unless category-fit for an LFL.
Every box is sorted by hand at the warehouse; signed and scarce first editions are researched before they're listed. Free pickup — 505-250-3804.
