When You Pull In
- Where the box is: outside the gate, closer to the road than the building. Look for the turquoise box with the roadrunner panel. It’s covered and waterproof, so rain and snow stay off your donations. Unit A is just the business address — you don’t need to go through the gate or find a door to use the box.
- Pulling up: pull over by the box, outside the gate, and unload from your trunk straight into the chute. There’s nothing to open and no one to check in with.
- After dark: the box is open all night. Bring a phone light if you’re coming late so you can see the chute.
- What fits: a box or two, or a few bags of books, media, or clean clothing, usually go straight down the chute. Leave them in their boxes or bags; I recycle the cardboard.
- Box full, or too much? Please don’t leave anything beside the box. Text 505-250-3804, or come between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., when someone is at the warehouse and can take it in.
- Daytime help: someone is at the warehouse from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week. Come in that window and someone can help you unload.
From I-25: take the Montaño Rd exit (228), head west on Montaño, then turn left (south) onto Edith Blvd. 5445 is about a block down, before Griegos. From the Westside, cross the river on Montaño and turn right onto Edith.

Built, Filled, Sorted
The drop box was not bought from a catalog. I built it, people filled it, and everything that goes in gets sorted by hand. These are my own photos of that cycle.
Why 24/7 Access Matters
A 24/7 book drop box means you can donate on your own schedule — after work, late at night, or early morning — without waiting for business hours or making an appointment.
Late Night? No Problem
Packing at midnight before a move? Just finished sorting your shelves at 11 PM? Drive over and drop off. The box is always there.
Weekends & Holidays
Saturday morning, Sunday afternoon, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving — the drop box doesn't care. Come whenever it works for you.
On Your Schedule
No appointment needed. No waiting in line. No "sorry, I'm closed." Just drive up, drop off, and go. Takes about 5 minutes.
What You Can Drop Off
This is the one-stop drop for anything media: books of every kind, textbooks, encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines, comics, sheet music, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, vinyl records, cassettes, and VHS tapes — in any condition. The things every other drop-off in town refuses — encyclopedia sets, stacks of National Geographic, water-damaged boxes, Reader's Digest sets — are exactly what this box exists for. Readable copies find new readers; the rest is recycled where possible, and no book goes to the landfill. Vintage formats are welcome too — 8-tracks, LaserDiscs, reel-to-reel tapes, Betamax, 78 RPM records, MiniDiscs — and the truly odd shelf too: wax cylinders, acetates, home-movie film reels and projectors, 35mm slides, camcorder tapes, View-Master reels, piano rolls, HD DVDs, big-box PC games, and cameras of every era (film, digital, lenses, camcorders, whole bags — working or not; pad the fragile pieces). If it plays, spins, prints, or shoots, bring it; players, decks, consoles and other electronics come 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or on a pickup rather than in the box. Clean, wearable clothing goes in the same box, too — bag it so it stays together.
Books — Any Kind
Hardcovers, paperbacks, children's books, textbooks, cookbooks, coffee-table books, reference books, novels. Any genre, any age. UNM and CNM students: the drop box is an easy option for end-of-semester textbook drop-offs.
Any Condition
Water-damaged, highlighted, dog-eared, torn covers, missing dust jackets, bent spines. Don't waste time sorting — just bring everything. Read about donating damaged books
DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs & VHS
Movies, music, TV series, audiobooks on disc, and VHS tapes. With or without cases, scratched or perfect. More on how to donate DVDs and VHS in Albuquerque, or donating CDs and other media.
Cameras, Lenses & Video Games
Film and digital cameras, lenses, camcorders and projectors go in the box, working or not, and so do game discs and cartridges for any console. Consoles and other electronics come 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or ride along on a pickup. More on donating cameras in Albuquerque and donating video games.
Clean, Wearable Clothing
Shirts, pants, jackets, and coats can go in the box as long as they’re clean and ready to wear. Bag them so they stay dry and together. More on clothing donations
No Sorting Required
Grocery bags, moving boxes, whatever you have. Toss them in the drop box — I handle the sorting after you leave.

What Happens to Your Donations
I sort everything. Books in demand get resold — that's how I fund my operations and free pickups. Children's books I can't resell are passed on free to community literacy partners and Little Free Libraries around the metro. I work to keep as much as possible in circulation and out of the waste stream.
I’m a for-profit business — no grants, no bureaucracy. Donations are not tax-deductible and there’s no tax receipt; a written acknowledgment is available on request.
24/7 Drop-Off FAQ
Do you really take newspapers, magazines, encyclopedias, and cassettes?
Yes — all of it, any condition. The drop box is a one-stop drop for anything media: books, textbooks, encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines, DVDs, CDs, vinyl, cassettes, and VHS. Every box is opened by hand; what can't be rehomed is routed as responsibly as possible, and no book goes to the landfill.
Can someone help me unload books at the drop-off?
Yes, if you come between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. — someone is at the warehouse those hours, seven days a week, and can help carry boxes in from your car. Outside those hours the drop box handles normal loads. If the box is full or the load is too big, please don't leave anything beside it: text 505-250-3804, or come back between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. so someone can take it in.
Where can I drop off books for free in Albuquerque?
At the free 24/7 drop box outside the gate at 5445 Edith Blvd NE — no appointment, no fee, books in any condition, day or night. If the load is too big for a car trip, free home pickup covers the whole Albuquerque metro instead, scheduled by route; for a whole library, see free book removal.

What can I drop off?
Books (any kind, any condition), DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, vinyl records, cassettes, VHS tapes, audiobooks, and every other kind of media, plus cameras, lenses, camcorders, projectors and slides (pad anything fragile). Clean, wearable clothing goes in the same box; bag it so it stays together. No sorting required.
Do you accept damaged books?

Can I drop off at night or on weekends?
Yes — any time. Night, weekends, holidays. The box is outdoors, covered, and waterproof, and it sits outside the gate, so it is always accessible. After dark, a phone light helps.

What if I have too many books for the drop box?

No. I’m a for-profit business, so donations are not tax-deductible and I don’t issue tax receipts. A written acknowledgment (date and approximate quantity) is available on request. Children’s books I can’t resell go free to Little Free Libraries and community literacy partners across the metro.

“Book drop off near me” — answered, 24/7
Call it what you like — a book drop off box, a book donation bin, a drop bin, or just the big turquoise box outside the gate on Edith — there is exactly one thing to know: it never closes, and dropping off is free. If a load is ever too much for the box, text 505-250-3804 rather than leaving it on the ground. Better yet, come between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.: someone is at the warehouse those hours every day to help you unload — heavy boxes, trunk loads, whole shelves. Other book drop-offs in town keep business hours. The Friends of the Public Library takes donations only at the Main Library downtown during posted hours, in good condition, in boxes under 30 pounds, and the library declines encyclopedias, textbooks, and magazines. Goodwill and other thrift doors are daytime-only and screen condition at intake. My box takes any condition, any hour.
The covered bin out by the road never closes: books, DVDs, CDs, and every other kind of media, in any condition, plus clean, wearable clothing, at any hour. If the load is too big for a car trip, free pickup covers the whole metro instead.
