Donate Textbooks in Albuquerque — Any Edition, Any Condition

Updated May 22, 2026

By Josh Eldred

Textbooks are one of the hardest things to donate. Buyback programs only want current editions. Used bookstores cherry-pick a few popular titles. Libraries rarely accept them. And once a new edition comes out, your mid-range collectible prices textbook is suddenly worth nothing to resellers.

I take textbooks regardless of edition, condition, or subject. Old editions, highlighted, written-in, bent spines — I accept them all. Student clearing out after finals, retiring teacher, or school district cycling old inventory — same simplest option in Albuquerque for everyone.

What Textbooks I Accept

College Textbooks

Any subject, any edition. Biology, chemistry, business, literature, engineering — current or outdated. Highlighted and annotated is fine.

K-12 Textbooks

Math, science, reading, social studies — any grade level. Schools cycling old inventory can schedule bulk pickup.

Study Guides & Workbooks

SAT/ACT prep, GED study guides, professional exam prep. Even if answers are filled in, I'll take them.

Reference Books & Manuals

Medical references, law textbooks, technical manuals, encyclopedias. Outdated editions still have value to many readers.

For Schools and Teachers

End of the school year? District-wide textbook refresh? Classroom library cleanout? I offer free bulk pickup for schools and educational institutions throughout the Albuquerque metro area. No minimum, no sorting required on your end.

Teachers can also drop off classroom books at my 24/7 drop box anytime — summer break, after school, weekends. See: Teacher & Classroom Book Donations

For Students

If buyback programs won't take your textbooks (and they often won't if it's an old edition), don't throw them away. Drive by my drop-off on your way home — it takes 5 minutes and you can come at any time. I'm at 5445 Edith Blvd NE, Unit A, near Edith and Montano.

UNM, CNM, and other Albuquerque-area students — I'm a quick drive from campus. Even if they're beat up, I'll take them.

Which Textbooks Have Resale Value?

Not all textbooks are worthless once they're out of date. Understanding which editions have actual market value can help you know what to expect when you donate.

Current editions of mainstream subjects—calculus, biology, organic chemistry, general psychology—tend to retain some resale value because new students still need them. Professional textbooks like nursing, engineering, or medical texts also hold value longer since the core material changes slowly. Some students buy used editions to save money compared to the mid-range value and above price tags on new copies.

Outdated editions lose value fast. A calculus textbook from 2015 when 2026 editions are in use? Nearly worthless. A biology text from 2010? The science has moved on. Highly specialized or niche textbooks—things like obscure graduate seminars or local curriculum guides—rarely have any secondary market at all.

When you donate to NMLP, I evaluate each book. Sellable editions go to resale markets. Others get recycled responsibly. Either way, you're not dealing with them anymore, and they're not ending up in a landfill.

What Happens to Outdated Textbook Editions?

Textbook publishers release new editions every 2-5 years, sometimes with only minor changes. This forces students to buy new copies and makes older editions hard to move in the secondhand market. So what actually happens to that stack of last-edition biology textbooks?

Publishers do this intentionally—it's part of their business model. Rental programs, access codes for online content, and tight edition cycles ensure students can't just buy cheap used books indefinitely. It creates a steady stream of near-worthless books that nobody wants.

Many outdated textbooks can't be resold at any price. Buyback programs reject them immediately. Online marketplaces return listing attempts as unsellable. Donation centers are literally the last stop before the recycling bin. At NMLP, I process these books honestly: if there's a resale market, great. If not, I recycle them responsibly rather than pretending they have value they don't actually have.

UNM & CNM Students: End-of-Semester Textbook Cleanout

If you're a UNM or CNM student at the end of the semester, you know the dilemma: the bookstore buyback offers next to nothing, and selling textbooks online is a hassle. You end up with a shelf full of respectable collectible value books that are worthless because they've been superseded by new editions.

This is exactly what NMLP is built for. Drive out to Edith Blvd near Montano after finals week—I'm just minutes from both campuses. Unload your books in under 5 minutes at the 24/7 drop box. No appointment, no haggling, no waiting around for shipping. Your finals are over. Your books are gone. Problem solved.

If you have a big stack—several classes worth of textbooks—and you don't want to make the drive, call 702-496-4214 and schedule free pickup. I'll come get them from your dorm, off-campus house, or apartment. Many UNM and CNM groups do this—residences clearing out at the end of the year, department offices cycling inventory, student organizations cleaning house. I handle all of it the same way: I come pick it up and you never see those books again.
